Video: Starchile out the 'Wilderness'

If you've slept on Atlanta-based duo StarChile till now, time to wake that ass up. The Atlanta-based duo's new LP, Sleepmode, is forthcoming, though no specific release date has been set. But based on the preview, "Wilderness" feat. Q, one should expect the same cosmic/concrete flows that fortified earlier releases "Emotions," "101," and "Introducin'."

There's something equal parts familiar and strange about what Massive the Victor (above, middle) and Divine Wisdome (left) are bringing to rap. "Imagine Black Star meets Outkast meets The Fugees," reads an old bio. Those are good touchstones, all being different amalgamations of conscious-but-grounded acts that defined the mid-to-late ’90s. But there's another dimension to these cats that I haven't quite put my finger on yet. Like mystics wrapping ancient wisdom in nebulous poetics, I get the sense that Starchile has been here before. And they seem more interested in mass conversion and transformation than preaching conscientiousness for the hell of it. The difference, of course, is that you have to be more entertaining and compelling to accomplish the former than the latter, and their visuals are the proof.
