Alive Inside

If you live on the Internet like me, you're probably already familiar with the clip of nursing home resident Henry and the dramatic reawakening he undergoes upon being reintroduced to his favorite music. What most posts fail to mention is the source of the clip. It's from a documentary film benefitting the Music and Memory non-profit project, which uses music to reengage the elderly. Titled Alive Inside, the film gets its debut screening in New York next week.

It's impossible to not be overcome by joy as Mr. Henry describes his feelings for Cab Calloway. If ever I make it to Henry's age, my only hope is that it doesn't take a documentary to wake up my caretakers to the fact that I still have ears for The Chronic.
