Savannah's Helix takes over HUNGER V

HUNGER returns to 529 tonight (Wed., April 11) for the fifth installment of the semi-monthly show of live electronic music. Helix, whose white-label "Drum Track" 12-inch arrived in March via UK House imprint Night Slugs, makes the trek from Savannah for a show of looped, minimal techno and classic grime production that culminates in spiraling, droning grooves that are awash in all sorts of finite, angelic textures. The more you listen, the more you discover hiding in the subtle spaces between the dirty bass blasts and drum chatter. The disembodied British dub/reggae selector shout-outs that punctuate “Drum Track” and again with “Stacks Riddim” on his SoundCloud page have a tendency to shatter the moment. But at such an early phase of this burgeoning producer's career, channeling all of the elements through the framework of DIY electronic music is quite innovative. Locals Broodlings, Moist Ghost (aka Taste Tester, Yung Taste God), Vax, and DJs Cc and Divine Interface also perform.

Free (donations accepted at the door). 9 p.m. 529, 529 Flat Shoals Ave. 404-228-6769.
