Black Lips Mid East doc is in the works

Producer Bill Cody (Athens, GA/Inside-Out, Two-headed Cow), and We Fun (which has been conspicuously left out of his description), has launched an IndieGoGo campaign to raise funds to document the Black Lips’ impending punk rock crusade throughout the Middle East with an A Hard Day's Night meets Don't Look Back-style film.

The tour kicks off Sept. 14 in Amman, Jordan, and finds the group trekking through Cairo, Egypt, Dubai, Cyprus, and Iraqi Kurdistan before one final stop in Beirut, Lebanon on Oct. 6.

Cody explains that he “knows” this film will have an impact around the world is because, “Music has always been one of the most important ways people have been able to bridge differences. Bringing people together through music has had lasting effects in the past and it will this time as well!”

So if you subscribe to the adage that blue jeans and rock 'n’ roll brought down the wall, you’re on the same page. But sending a full-on camera crew to the Middle East ain’t cheap. Cody has set a goal to raise $35,000, and the campaign ends on Tues., July 31, which (as of press time) is less than a month away. The film has a long way to go, and a short time to get there.
