If you haven’t seen the fliers posted around town, the headline kind of says it all. Lightnin’ Ray Jackson has entered into a WhoozNxt contest through Guitar Center, and the winner gets to open for former Guns n' Roses guitarist Slash at the Tabernacle on Wed., Sept 12. There’s a lot more at stake in the contest as well, including $10,000 in new gear from Gibson and Epiphone, and a $5,000 shopping spree at Guitar Center, but above and beyond all else, Lightnin’ Ray seems fixated on landing that highly coveted gig with Slash.
According the Facebook event page he's created to raise awareness for his plight, “We made it to the top 40 in the Atlanta area yesterday. With a little more help from you we can go all the way! We made a big splash yesterday, and we're doing it the right way!”
He later adds, “Slash is my #1 guitar hero, this would be an amazing thing for me! Please help.”
Yes, he used to play in the Washed Out live band. Yes, he has the appearance of a man possessed, and who knew he had such nice teeth? The contest ends at midnight tonight, and if you'd like to see Lightnin' Ray and the Mystics’ open for Slash, you know what to do.
To thank you for your support, he’s made his new album, Somewhere in the Velvet Sky, available as a free download.

Yes, 14 is the correct answer. I'll pass your info along to the group's manager,…
That was January of 2007, and they are 21 now, so I'm guessing 14?
