Hawks haven't played around these parts since May, and since then they've been out on the road playing shows in support of their latest album, Push Over. So naturally, now that they've put some miles on these songs, tonight's show at the Basement (Fri., Aug. 3) is bound to be a pretty gnarly return. In the meantime, if you haven't had a chance to check out the album yet, there's a three-song sampler posted on the group's Bandcamp page, and it's a solid pretty solid teaser for an album that stirs up all sorts of angry and grizzled feelings from deep down.
Less gnarly, though no less antagonistic, Untied States perform as well, and they've got Josh Lott (former Elf Power/Paper Lions) playing drums these days. Buildings, a noise rock trio from Minneapolis, slays eardrums in the traditions of their hometown's AmRep legacy. Caltrop opens with a riff fest from Chapel Hill, N.C.
$8. 9 p.m. The Basement, 1245 Glenwood Ave. 404-622-8686.
