Primate's 'Draw Back a Stump' + 3 album release party

Primate.jpg
For those who are unfamiliar, Primate is a Southern hardcore/grind-punk thing made up of locals Kevin Sharp (vocals), Dave Whitworth (bassist/vocalist), and Shayne Huff (drums), along with Mike Brennan and Mastodon’s Bill Kelliher (guitars). The group’s debut LP, Draw Back A Stump + 3, is a beefed up revision of last year's self-released EP, and has been a bit of a sleeper since it arrived in record stores about a month ago via Relapse; but they’re playing a record release party at Criminal Records tonight around 7 p.m. tonight (Fri., Aug. 3) — the beast has awakened.

Draw Back A Stump is a manly and muscular album that's so filled with brutal riffage and gravel-throated growling that you can smell, like you're standing in the crowd, just narrowly dodging some dude's hair while he does a helicopter next to you. ... Definitely a jam for fans of Discharge, Poison Idea, Black Flag (dig that cover of "Drinking and Driving) and the likes.

Criminal Records is located at 1154-A Euclid Ave. in L5P. 404-215-3511.
