New noise: Mr. SOS, Heavy Chevy, New Animal, Order of the Owl, and Suni MF Solomon

Mr. SOS
  • Mr. SOS
Mr. SOS of Mighty High Coup has a new EP out, titled Trains Never Get Sidetracked. It’s a completely independent offering helmed mostly by SOS and Abeo Rzo, with a bit of production work by Ricky Raw, Mudfish, and the likes. By and large it’s a solid hip-hop offering, and a taste of things to come with Lord Have Mercenaries, a new full-length that SOS and Rzo are probably working on as you read this.

"Massive" is the first cut featured on the EP.

"KingShit" is a cool new minimal dub/retro/electro-funk cut by Heavy Chevy, a newer group featuring a hodgepodge of players from Sun Toucher, Battery 5, and the Difference Machine. It's good fodder for the dance floor, and there are plenty of other jams worth checking out on their SoundCloud page.

New Animal recently posted their latest single via SoundCloud, titled “Falling Up.” There’s another song, titled “They Won't Let Me Go,” which will appear as the B-side for a limited edition cassette tape the group is releasing via Old Flame Records in October.

Order of the Owl's new seven-song In the Noon of the After Day 12-inch has quickly become a contender for various year-end best of lists come December, and it's free for the taking via Bandcamp. Blackened glacial rhythms that creep along, speeding up and slowing down at will, accompanied by squalls of feedback and distortion, are this Southern doom metal trio's calling card. Dig that Godzilla battle cry that kicks off "Mighty Demon Lover / Dead Trees" — it's a harbinger of goosebumps.

... And last but not least, Suni MF Solomon, who claims to be "the best female rapper alive," has a gritty new mixtape posted up over at LiveMixTapes.com.
