10 (or 12) recommended Little 5 Fest shows to hit up this Saturday

With nearly 100 local bands, solo acts, DJs, and knob-twiddlers descending upon Little 5 Points this Saturday (September 29) for the second annual Little 5 Fest, navigating the long list of performers can be a bit overwhelming. While there is an element of the usual suspects playing the fest, there's also some serious talent on the bill that should not be overlooked. Here’s a quick roundup of my recommended shows to hit up throughout the day.

—First and foremost, Fran Capitanelli and Brent Hinds are two of the finest guitar players this town has ever seen, and they're both playing this year’s fest. Fran's doing a solo set at Aurora Coffee (7 p.m.) and Brent's playing a Fiend Without A Face set in Star Bar’s main room stage (11 p.m.).

—The back-to-back pairing of Savannah’s Helix (12:45 a.m.), and Distal (2 a.m.) for the Embassy Records’ showcase at the Five Spot marks a particularly cool portion of the night dedicated to some pretty forward-thinking electronic music that’s not necessarily concerned with micro-genre semantics, and that’s always a good thing.
DISTAL - Lickety Split by Distal

—Chris Devoe of Social Studies is playing a set at at Criminal Records (2 p.m.) He's also DJing a set at Elmyr (6 p.m.)

—When it comes to sheer power and fury, it doesn’t get much better than a HAWKS show, especially when Mike keeps his pants on. They’re playing the Star Bar’s main room (7 p.m.)

—If you haven’t seen Abby GoGo in a minute, they’ve been on a tear as of late. Catch them in the Star Bar main room (11:15 p.m.)

—Fresh off the stage at Counterpoint, Reptar closes things out at Criminal Records (10:30 p.m.) with a dance party between the new and used vinyl racks.

—It’s always a party when Noot d’ Noot plays — like Sly and the Family Stone meets the Banana Splits! Star Bar outdoor stage (7:30 p.m.)

—And last, but not least, it’s been a whole year since Anna Kramer & the Lost Cause played a show in town. Not since last year's L5 Fest to be exact. Drummer Adam Renshaw left town, what are you gonna do? They’re on the Star Bar’s outdoor stage (4:30 p.m.) And since Adam will be around, he’ll also join the Forty-Fives in the main room (9 p.m.)
