Few things mystify in the internet age more than the continued hype and buzz surrounding the group Death Grips — well that and the appeal of Honey Boo Boo. The group known for its no holds barred cacophonous mixture of hip-hop and noise, managed to keep up this air of mystery going into its third and most recent release, the No Love Deep Web EP. With this newest offering being unleashed unto the world through filesharing services such as BitTorrent and Soundcloud the group garnered much attention within the online music community. Through what many believe was initially an attempt to circumvent Epic's unwillingness to release the album, it soon became one of the most buzzed about marketing/distribution methods in recent memory (sans Radiohead with In Rainbows).
Having known that their last tour was canceled altogether I anxiously anticipated my chance to witness the madness and mystery incarnate. Even while standing in the crowd at Space 2 at the Sound Table, camera in hand, I found it hard to believe that I was actually about to see the group that had remained a mystery for so long. Murmurs in the room reflected my sentiments, but once MC Ride and Zach Hill took to the tiny stage reality set in: We were in for one hell of a show. Topping out at around 45 minutes, the show was a constant peak of blistering sound with no pauses. And yes, I just mentioned Death Grips and Honey Boo Boo together in an article, the first sentence nonetheless.
