If you’ve caught S.S. Vendetta live in recent months, their new song “Lonely Night” may sound a little familiar. The track and others slated for the band’s Transitions EP due out (tentatively) later this month have been in their on-stage rotation for a span. But it’s rather soothing to hear a more polished studio version not drowned in the clamor of music venues and cheap beer.
Guitarist and head banger Alex Foretich said the band has matured a bit beyond their third-wave ska roots, a progression captured, at least partly, in their newer music.
“We’re not your happy-go-lucky pirate band anymore,” Foretich said. “We come from different backgrounds — metal, indie, country, hip-hop — but we all mesh well writing together, and hopefully it shows.”
Transitions marks the third short release for the Dallas, Ga. based six-piece in a little less than two years. In the coming months, the crew plans to drop remastered versions of their earlier EPs as the We Don’t Look Good Naked: A Compilation full-length album. In the meantime, catch the gang live for an expanding track list. Their next show is Sat., Nov. 3, at Swayze's in Marietta.
