Invent Room Pop 19 went big on Friday night

A recording of Friday night's (November 16) Invent Room Pop 19 session made its way onto the Internet pretty quickly over the weekend. The list of scheduled performers included Jason Elliott of Spirits and the Melchizedek Children (guitar and vocals), Sarah Cozart (percussion, vocals and melodica), Lindsey Ellcessor (vocals and percussion), Justin Waters (vocals, electronics, and processing), Rex Hussmann (gyil, vocals, and accordion), and Curtis Stephens (electronics and vocals).

However, the last two tracks of the recording, "Post Set pt. 1" and "Post Set. pt. 2," capture pretty much exactly what their titles say: A nearly hour and a half-long improv set that broke out after everyone had performed. It's divided into two parts during which Dave Matysiak, Adam Bruneau, Madeline Polites, Gary Eddy, Matthew Hollis, Robby Kee, Cole Alexander (Black Lips), and Bradford Cox joined in to foster a strangely melodic set, filled with all sorts of unorthodox rhythmic cycles, noise, and loops.

... You can also check out the uncut "Post Set" jam on Eyedrum's SoundCloud page.

In the meantime, the twentieth installment of the monthly improv Invent Room Pop series is set to take place on December 21 at Beep Beep Gallery. Performers will include Robby Kee (electronics), Grant Evans of Quiet Evenings (tape loops), Michael Fowler (omnichord and theremin), Hiron Roy of the Atlanta Sedition Orchestra (sax), Pixi Francis Moon (drum machine), and Jessica Sherwood of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (flute).

Anyone who's interested in performing at future IRP nights can sign up by sending an e-mail to inventroompop@gmail.com.
