Although the album's title is still TBA, Brothers Nicholas and Peter Furgiuele, and Chris Kaufmann have picked up where they left off with All Y'all and Count Yer Lucky Stars, sans Pete DeLorenzo. But whereas the last two records were recorded with Ben Allen and James Salter, Gringo Star has self-recorded, produced, and mixed these new numbers themselves, in the basement where they practice, or according the fine print on the single's sleeve, "at Studio 234." This is the first time these guys, left to nothing more than their own devices, have churned out music like this since 2001/2002 when the group assembled its The Dangerous Life of Insects CD back when they were still calling themselves A Fir-Ju Well.
Peter Furgiuele takes vocal duties for the A-side, "Going Way Out," leading the song through a dreamy, mid-tempo, minor chord shipwreck vibe.
On the flipside, Nick sings for "Taller," giving the group's underlying psychedelic a dose of rock 'n' roll strut.
The album is still under construction, and whether or not it will arrive via Gigantic Music, the label that released Count Yer Lucky Stars, remains to be seen. In the meantime Gringo Star will be heading out to play a string of shows throughout the Southeast, up the East Coast, and into Canada in January. Tour dates are posted below the jump.
