After a long hiatus, Kirkwood Ballers Club returns from the grave tonight (Monday, December 10) and this time it’s happening at the Star Bar.

?
For those who are unfamiliar, Kirkwood Ballers Club is an open mic night o sort, tailored for free and wild musical experimentation. Since its beginnings in 2004, the KBC has taken many forms, while bouncing from venue to venue, including a house in Kirkwood where it all started, the old Lenny’s, the Highland Inn, 1111 Teahouse, and more. It’s even been reported that Ballers Clubs have happened at Zebulon in Brooklyn, but it is a distinctively Atlanta event.

?
The call is simple: Bring an instrument, a device, a record, a beat, a turntable, a laptop, a prepared piece of music, a song, a voice, a bag of blood, a film projector, a boyfriend, a girlfriend, an agenda, a broken guitar, and all your hang-ups for an evening of jazzy, noisy, and totally arty musical madness, improvisation, and some concerted songwriting as well. Everyone form Black Lips, Deerhunter, and Lyonnais spent some serious time at KBC in the early days. And over the years the event has hosted performances by King Khan, Girl Talk, Jana Hunter, and more.

?
Sign up to perform begins at 10 p.m. downstairs in the Little Vinyl Lounge. 437 Moreland Ave. 404-681-9018. Music begins at midnight and it’s free to attend.

The next KBC happens on Mon. Jan. 14.
