Iron Jayne’s ‘Ship’ rises from the ashes of Back Pockets

The stripped-down approach bodes well for Kempf and Co.

?
Ever since the Back Pockets (supposedly) broke up earlier this year, Emily Kempf has channeled her musical energy into a new band, called Iron Jayne, which she unveiled at the Corndogorama back in July.

?
“Ship” is the first video and single to materialize under this new moniker, and at the time of the video shoot, the group consisted of Kempf (bass/vocals), Ryan Odem (guitar), and Garrett Goss (drums). A bass player may be added to the lineup sometime soon, fleshing out a full-on four-piece.

?
If the new song/video makes anything clear it’s that the stripped-down approach bodes well for Kempf, allowing a more refined sense of personality and pop songwriting abilities to shine brighter than the experimental theatrics that often overpowered her efforts with the Back Pockets.

?
There aren’t any Iron Jayne shows on the books at the moment, but the groups is currently recording an EP (due out this spring) at Birdhouse Studios with Damon Moon.
