Local drone entity downers. (aka Drew Haddon) released a video for "Hate Filled Explosion" this week. If ominous, sustained noise and micro-tones are your thing this is right up your alley. The song embraces an inorganic, industrial aesthetic, and it's the first look at the project's latest offering, Irreversible Ecstasies - a totally head-cleaning experience. Check it out.
On the subject of harsh noise and ambient drone music, local duo Outer Gods, aka the Flail (guitars, vocals, effects, synthesizers) and the Wrathe (synthesizers, vocals, oscillators, samples), have two songs posted on its Bandcamp page, "Writ en Dominae" and "Mael Medusa." Both are mammoth works of noise and resonance cut from the same cloth as downers.' latest.
Sure, the Outer Gods' fake names are a bit hokey, but kudos to them for facilitating a little bit of mystery and letting the music speak for itself. Keep an eye out for a new cassette release out next month via Big Blonde Records titled Beneath the Marred and Blackened Hand. There's also talk of a split 12-inch with Nate Hall of US Christmas, and a full-length album titled Light Dims Eternal in the works as well.
