Daytrotter releases second Carnivores session

Carnivores_DT.jpg
Earlier this week, Daytrotter released a Carnivores session recorded in 2011, offering a snapshot of four raw touring versions of "Second Impulse," "Born Again And You Need It Bad," "Darker Days," and "Prom Night."

In case you missed it, this is the second Carnivores session that Daytrotter has released, and it's difficult to say which illustration renders the band in the least flattering and inappropriately precious light.

Regardless, each of the songs from this later session unfolds with the kind of gritty spontaneity of a set list that's being hammered into road-ready numbers, making for a cool and telling piece of history in the group's evolution.

Or as Daytrotter's Sean Moeller puts it ...

"They are fuzzy documents that lead us into spooked alleyways, the ones that we'd never walk down at night, even in gigantic clusters of people. These are the alleyways for the rats and the sharks, for the knives and the shadows and we're hearing the privileged secrets of these sinister spots through the dark and torrential lyrics."

Carnivores play the Star Bar on Saturday, March 16 with Warehouse and more.
