Grass Widow, one of the many San Francisco bands bringing good good jams to Atlanta lately, released Internal Logic last year (HLR). It's a beautiful riddle of a record, inviting you to come back again and again to unlock its secrets. I've got it on tape, thanks to Burger Records, and it just flips from side A to Side B to Side A over and over again. All three members sing - guitarist Raven Mahon, bassist Hannah Lew, and drummer Lillian Maring - and their voices bounce off of each other forming odd but hypnotic pop melodies. Slicing their van through the rain on the way to Florida, Hannah Lew gave us seven short answers to seven short questions in seven minutes.
What's the key to a perfect crossword?
Will Shortz' involvement! I think a clever theme is good. I don't like when there's too many far-fetched clues with question marks. Come on, guys!
What would you expect to see outside a grass window?
What makes a gross window?
Too much wind, bro!
Three worst questions to ask an all-girl band?
I'm hoping the emphasis moves away from gender and more about musicianship in general. It's really annoying when we get asked questions as women first and then as musicians. Gender is just one element in our three complex personal attributes.
Three worst pickup lines heard on the road?
What's up, 'girl with the dragon tattoo'?
If you were touring all the time, what would you want to tour in?
My bed. Touring on the astral plane.
Who is your dream tour bus driver?
Karen Soskin of Strength in Numbers. She is the best!!
3 people apparently love handing over an extra 40% in fees for nothing in return…
Dang. I thought they would name some actual headliners.
Forgot to mention that Iggy did a stellar show @ the Agora in the spring…
Their fees were onerous, to say the least. $16 per ticket for "convenience," and it's…
That poster is for the Iggy Pop show on March 11 1983 @ 688 club…
