Turf War returns home from a brief Southern tour tonight (April 19) for the first of two consecutive, high-profile shows at 529. The band shares the stage this evening with like-minded Louisville rockers State Champion a week before being one of only three local acts, along with Ghost Bikini and G.H.B., to appear at this year's Mess-Around. Turf War is slated to go on second during next Friday's early show after Ghost Bikini's 4 p.m. set. Both dates follow the release of the first three tracks from Converse Rubber Track's The Great Escape digital E.P. The title track has just hit the blogosphere, and despite being an ambitiously long 4:25, doesn't let up for a second. It's one of the band's fastest tunes, letting punk influences overshadow its usual Americana and classic rock reference points.

Turf War, State Champion, Animal City, Walk From The Gallows, and Brunch play 529 tonight (April 19). $7. 9 p.m
