Having just come off a tour with Featureless Ghost that hit all the way up to Canada and back, Matt Weiner, Twins' sole member and one-half of Featureless Ghost, now readies his Twins material as centerpiece of a showcase of dark dance and synth sounds at 529 tonight (Wed., May 8). Recently released via Clan Destine Records, Weiner's split with Os Ovni is Twins' densest material to date. The flailing guitar, heaving synth chords, and blackened melody on tracks like "Dark Shit" resemble a mix of Joy Division's pre-synth material and Nine Inch Nails' Pretty Hate Machine. "Hush Hush" is a shockingly intimate play on gothic noise and bedroom funk, with a bass-heavy groove of murky rhythm.

Older tracks like "Back Down" from a split with Joy and Revolution on Magic Rub Cassettes fire through with IDM's glitchy rhythms and attention deficient melodies. Ian Curtis' detached desperation, Suicide's retro-futuristic synth punk, and isolated cold wave are synthesized into a concise blur of shambled dance music that's perfect for the dark, cramped corners of 529.

Twins plays 529 tonight (Wed., May 8) with Fielded, Gel Set, Tifaret, and Fit of Body. Free (donations). 10 p.m. 529 Flat Shoals Ave. 404-228-6769.
