Guitarist and songwriter Chet Knight, best known as a founding member of Atlanta punk mainstay Adolf and the Piss Artists (A.P.A.), has picked up where that band left off a couple of years ago, releasing a new 7-inch with the No Disciples. The four-song E.P., a split release by French label Guerilla Vinyl and Knight’s own 45 Revolutions Records, finds the group working with some familiar faces and sounds. Three-fifths of the group is made up of the final A.P.A. lineup - Knight, guitarist Richard Henderson, and bass player Paul Masci. Rounding out the No Disciples is guitarist Tuk Smith and drummer Joey O’Brien of the Biters. For those who don’t know, A.P.A. and 45 Revolutions were driving forces in the Atlanta punk scene in the late ’90s and early 2000s, a time when street punks and skinheads had a more visible presence in the local music landscape.

The four-song EP’s opening track, “All I Need Is,” is a little different than what you might expect, as the song’s tempo and a chorus of female backup vocals captures Knight taking on the role of an introspective songwriter, as opposed to the gruff-voiced, street-wise punk veteran he’s earned the right to be called. Other songs, such as “(If You’re a Rebel) Rebel” and “Scorched Earth Policy,” are both newly recorded versions of latter-day A.P.A. demos, so they’re more in line with what longtime fans should expect. Rounding out the record is a cover of “I Surrender,” by U.K. punk legends the Adverts, devoted to the memory of Knight’s son who passed away in 2011.

No word yet whether the No Disciples will book any release shows this summer around the Biters’ schedule, though A.P.A. is playing a reunion show - the group’s first appearance in three years - scheduled for July as part of Tulsa, Ok’s Fuck You, We Rule, OK punk and oi fest.
