The Coathangers get caught in a murder mystery with ‘Derek’s Song’

Atlanta punk staples star in a whodunit period piece with their latest video

A locally shot video for the Coathangers’ “Derek’s Song,” from the band’s recent Suicide Squeeze split with Nu Sensae, finds the band leaping back in time and landing in the middle of a paranormal murder mystery. A jazz-era hotel party at the Highland Inn goes awry when an ill-intentioned receptionist, played by local musician Sunni Johnson (Knaves Grave), causes the deaths of numerous familiar faces. Like the band’s recent “Hurricane” and “Trailer Park Boneyard” videos, this black-and-white period piece was directed by local filmmaker Mike Moore (Studio 8).
