Highlander wraps the summer in 'Blankets'

Right as we're hitting the summer's midpoint, Atlanta indie quartet Highlander now issues the humidity - and UV- coated video for "Blankets," a laid back tune that lazily strolls through various scenes of idle summer revelry. Taken from the group's Good Numbers EP, which drops tomorrow (Aug. 13) via Boom Done! Records, "Blankets" pits mid-tempo pacing with colorful synth fills and lackadaisical vocals, amassing a lightly raucous din of sincere pop-rock sentiment. The video, directed and edited by main Highlander Joe Oliver, hosts a bevy of imagery that almost physically conveys the thick summer vibes of venturing OTP for harmless lakeside shenanigans. Rope swings, hot dogs, and beach blankets all play heavy roles here. Things aren't as sunny if you dig a little deeper though, as Oliver laments, "Hold my hand and tell me that things are gonna be okay. If I work real hard and don't use drugs, things are come come my way." It's an oddly dark soundtrack to the end of these summer days.
