As a result of an inside joke, on Sat., Aug. 24, Under The Couch is hosting the first annual Jortsfest, paying homage to the end of the summer, and the go-to wardrobe staple of the season: Jorts!

For those who are wondering, they are exactly how they sound: jeans cut into shorts. Not to be confused with japris or cut-offs. We were given strict definitions of what these are:

Jeans: Denim, reaches the ankle.
Jorts: Denim, above or at the knee.
Japris: Denim, between knee and ankle.
Cutoffs: Any leg garment that has been cut shorter than its original length, the material and length are not implied by this phrase.

WREK Program Director and Goldsoundz host Maria Sotnikova, who co-founded Jortsfest with Michael Leon of Under the Couch, describes the concert series as "a variety of the local music scenes. We booked a bunch of indie pop, garage, and punk bands that we were either friends with or found on Bandcamp."

After they started booking local bands, more and more bands wanted to get in on Jortsfest, including a psychedelic noise band, Gibberish Fuckattack, and a punk band from Inglewood, Cali., Third World Labor Force.

Other bands you can see at Jortsfest include Champagne Room, Gold-Bears, Small Reactions, and many others are all part of the lineup. Check out the full schedule.

Festivities start at 4:30 p.m. on Sat., Aug. 24th, and continue on through the evening. It's free, and puff paint and glitter will be provided for making your very own pair of decorated jorts.
