Savages add last-minute show at Vinyl

London post-punk revivalists ride the wave of their explosive LP into Atlanta

Calling all fans of moody post-punk and affected noir-pop! Savages, the UK fem-quartet and newest signees to Matador Records’ ever-expanding lineup, just added a surprise show to their current US tour. Following the release of their debut LP Silence Yourself, a terse but explosive statement of modern post-punk, the band now brings its foreboding and clattering live show to Vinyl’s cramped quarters. With a noise and rhythm section that would rival Wire or Gang of Four and a vocal delivery akin to Siouxsie or Ian McCulloch, the band has filled a cold and tense void in the collective heart of adorers of disjointed, dance-able punk music. ADD-addled fans be warned: taking cues from high-minded, philosophy-first-music-second greats like Fugazi, Savages have been known to call out fans paying more attention to their cell phones or gossip than the performance.

Savages and Duke & Johnny play Wed. 10/9. 8 p.m. $15. Vinyl, 1374 W. Peachtree St., 404-885-1365.
