Working as a party promoter and DJing house parties around the Atlanta University Center, Tonee, born Antonio Morgan, eventually went on to book himself for his first big gig at Club Libra and it was just his luck that the owner of another club was in the crowd. Dedicated and hungry, Tonee pretty much taught himself the fundamentals of the DJing world and took over the college and club scene one party at a time. "He basically approached me to play at his club and it took off from there."
Amazed by the impact music can have on one's mood and connection to certain memories, Tonee prides himself on being a DJ known to spin records that make the crowd reminisce. "There are songs that you can play that will take people back to that one moment in life," Tonee says. "They'll remember where they were and how they felt just from hearing that one song. It's crazy and to see the crowd's reaction to songs I play is a crazy feeling."
Since starting his DJing career two years ago, Tonee believes he has progressed with help from mentors like DJ Geronimo, Ray G and A Plus. Honing in his diverse music selection, often blending hip-hop, pop, R&B, soul, and reggae, coupled with his creative abilities to keep the crowd guessing at every event, he is most definitely a young DJ on the come up.
Check out DJ Tonee on Sunday, Oct. 6th at Ambient Studios as a part of this year's A3C Festival. Also, catch DJ Tonee at Opera Nightclub Wednesdays, Space ATL Thursdays, Mansion Elan Fridays, and Obsessions and Ritz 2 on Saturdays.
