‘Halloween’ II - VI composer Alan Howarth comes to Plaza Theatre

Howarth will play music from John Carpenter films, followed by a Q&A.

On the bloody heels of AMC’s showing of Halloween III earlier this week comes the co-composer of the film’s soundtrack to the Plaza Theatre for a one-night performance of creepy soundtracks, electronic effects, and a Q&A.

John Carpenter is frequently referenced as the composer of his films’ soundtracks, but that is not entirely accurate. For Carpenter classics such as Escape from New York, Halloween II - VI, Christine, and They Live, Alan Howarth is also credited as composer. Howarth’s IMDB page is a veritable dictionary of cool horror soundtracks: Aside from his many compositions, he has 50+ film credits for “sound effects” and as “sound designer” on such masterpieces as Poltergeist, Phantasm II, and Total Recall (1990).

For this concert commemorating the 35th anniversary of Halloween, Howarth will play only music from John Carpenter films, followed by a Q&A (although staying for that brings the ticket price up). Expect to see Howarth playing the “hits” with some appropriate mood lighting and film clips projected in the background. It is not yet known whether Michael Myers will be roaming the aisles of the Plaza yet, but we can sure hope so, can’t we?

Alan Howarth. Sat., Oct. 26. $15-35. 7 p.m. The Plaza Theatre 1049 Ponce de Leon Ave. Atlanta, GA 30306. 404-873-1939.
