‘Droppings’ hits the streets

Scavenger of Death and GG King cohorts Ryan Bell and Greg King rekindle the spirit of hardcore fanzines

Image Rekindling the spirit of the local music zine, and not just another stinkin’ blog, co-owners of Atlanta hardcore imprint Scavenger of Death, and GG King bandmates Ryan Bell and Greg King have churned out Droppings. Complete with an Atlanta scene report, Q&As with handful of hardcore bands from around the country, and a cassette comp that includes songs by Predator, Total Control, Dasher, a rare Neon Christ cut, and more. “I like these bands, and they’d never let me put out their records - maybe they would - but this is a way to keep working with them in a slightly different capacity,” Bell says.

The first issue is a bit minimal, but it carries a distinct look and style in its visual presentation and the music it covers. And if you’re stuck in an existential quandary, check out the Dear Ruby column, in which former Bukakke Boys and current Mercenary frontman Ruby Rubinowitz offers his sage-like advice when it comes to topics ranging from politics, sexual misanthropy, hamburgers, and a whole lot more. But despite all of this, the zine’s true intent is to continue cataloging the local hardcore scene while having fun and not taking themselves too seriously; kinda like the old Touch & Go zines.

Bell and King did an initial press of 300 copies, and you can find them at Wax ‘n’ Facts, Criminal Records, and online via Scavenger of Death.

Keep an eye out for the Paris scene report when iss. no. 2 drops.
