Having only been in existence for a handful of months, post-hardcore quartet MTN ISL has performed a slew of sets alongside the city's noisiest racketeers (HAWKS, deadCAT, Skin Jobs, and more) and even written and recorded its debut. Featuring members of Sunglasses and Rapturous Grief, MTN ISL peddles frayed and dismayed runs of acerbic and open-ended tunefulness. Recorded and mixed by Andrew Wiggins, Atlanta's version of Steve Albini, God Become Animal highlights MTN ISL's melodic, post-hardcore and dual-persona facade - brutishly lumbering, but always transcendent. "Hacer" and "Snake Mansion" plow through troughs of noise with reckless abandon while "We Three Kings" and "Dinner Planet" ebb and flow with artful resonance, playing up the between-note silences as much as the tonal assaults. It's a promising debut for a band set apart from a sea of noise-obsessed guitar bands. Stream God Become Animal in its entirety below.
