Nomen Novum captures house party revelry with 'Crash + Rust'

What's most apparent about Nomen Novum's latest offering of seamlessly edited, wide-eyed art pop is David Norbery's uncanny ability to cull undeniably sweet hooks out of heaps of dismantled sonic clatter. The aural flotsam and jetsam is more than hummable, it's downright danceable. "Crash + Rust," taken from Nomen Novum's upcoming Lookalikes EP, pulls together its kaleidoscopic melody from haphazard edits and incongruous accidents, making the final product all the more endearing. From the tune's dizzyingly cyclical guitar meanderings to the, as Norbery explains, "candid, drunken freestyling" from a friend at a house party, vocal snippets and ultimately saccharine dissolve, "Crash + Rust" exhumes the essence of good-natured witching hour revelry in the South. It's hard to find fault here, just let the good times roll.

Nomen Novum plays Ohmpark Fest 2 tonight (Sat. Jan. 11). $10. 529, 529 Flat Shoals Ave. 404-228-6769.
