Lee Ranaldo & the Dust headline January’s Red Bull Sound Select show this weekend on Sat., Jan. 25 at the Basement, a show that’s curated by Creative Loafing and doubles as Radfest 2014, or the annual birthday bash of CL Music Editor Chad Radford.

The former Sonic Youth co-founder and guitarist stands out from other SY offshoots with his musical mix of classic rock and the abstract, showcased on last year’s psychedelic, bluesy Last Night on Earth (Matador), and his accompanying band the Dust, which includes former SY drummer Steve Shelley and guitarist Alan Licht.

Red Bull Sound Select shows front the costs for the main act so that ticket sales go to the local openers, who for this show will be Lyonnais, deadCAT, and Faun and a Pan Flute. Tickets are $3 through the Red Bull site and $10 at the door.

Sat., Jan. 25. 9 p.m. 18+. No smoking.The Basement. 1245 Glenwood Ave. 404-622-8686.
