Blair Crimmins whirls the Earl

Posted By on Fri, Jan 24, 2014 at 8:40 AM

The ragtime-inspired Blair Crimmins and the Hookers play their first show of 2014 tonight (Fri., Jan. 24) at the Earl.

After releasing 2013's Sing-A-Longs, the local bard and his merry band (which includes a Dixieland horn section with trumpet, trombone, and clarinet) went on tour last fall, but they've returned with more charming shenanigans like those featured in the above video (directed by Tim Redman), where the multi-instrumentalist takes his puppet interviewer on a drunken night out to the Star Bar.

Crimmins' unexpected blend of vaudeville, big band jazz, and polished songwriting makes for a festive performance, and tonight, they'll be supported by the Athens-based Darnell Boys.

$10-12. 9 p.m. The Earl. 488 Flat Shoals Ave. 404-522-3950.
