Manchester Orchestra plays 'Cope' LP release party at Gallery L1

Posted By on Thu, Apr 3, 2014 at 12:25 PM

Just back from performing the title track of the new album Cope on "Letterman," Manchester Orchestra celebrates the release with a free all-ages show tonight (Thurs., April 3).

The album, out this week on the Loma Vista / Republic label, gets a visual- and performance-art makeover for the event, which is the latest in the Tumblr IRL series of art-installations-meet-music-shows sponsored by the blog platform. Expect acoustic versions of the band's guitar-driven rock tunes as well as interactive art crafted by LA-based design firm Uprising Creative that's meant to complement and interpret the album's themes and tone.

"When we were trying to make this thing come to life in an art space," Manchester Orchestra recently told Billboard.com, "we wanted to focus on how to turn these different meanings [of the word "cope"] into a really cool interactive party with projections and black-and-white lyrics."

The 7 p.m. show takes place at Gallery L1 in the Telephone Factory Building, and though admission's free, you've gotta RSVP online.
