The Grievous Angel returns to the Star Bar

In a night dedicated to freewheeling country singer/songwriter Gram Parsons, Star Bar is hosting "Return of the Grievous Angel" tonight (Fri., April 4), featuring performances by Slim Chance & the Convicts, I Want Whisky, Caroline & the Ramblers, Blake Rainey & His Demons, and Rolling Nowhere.

The founder of a blend of R&B, folk, soul, and rock dubbed "cosmic American music," Parsons, who died at the age of 26, was known for his work in the Byrds, the Flying Burrito Brothers, and the International Submarine Band.

Tonight's proceeds, which also include $1 raffle tickets to win stuff from Palookaville Fine Foods, Liberty Tattoo, and more, will go to the Derry Down Project, a fund to preserve and restore Gram Parsons' first performance venue in Winter Haven, Fla.

$10. 8 p.m. Fri., April 4. The Star Community Bar. 437 Moreland Ave.
