Deerhunter's Bradford Cox has a cool essay about his personal electronic odyssey - from the Moog Rogue Synthesizer he bought at a second-hand shop years ago to his affinity for "Electrically Recorded" 78s from the 1920s a la Charlie Patton - on Huffington Post.

The moral of the story: "... explore the simplest tools you can find to express yourself."
