A summer playlist should include tracks that embrace wistful nostalgia, capture the essence of spontaneity, and also make you want to shake the sweat off your tail feather. As the Atlanta temperature spikes into an epic, and scorching, wave of hellish proportions, Meredith Franco (Minnie Coathanger), bassist and vocalist in the Coathangers, was kind enough to share her top 15 songs for Crib Notes’ local musician playlist series, along with some other personal tidbits.

What are your summer plans? Any solo vacations or projects you’re working on?

I’m going on a personal vacation in a week to my parents’ house in Massachusetts. We’re Coathangers going on a Florida tour for two weeks. We’re going to Disneyland, I mean Disney World, because Julia’s been to Disneyland, but has never been to Disney World. We have a day off in Orlando so we’re going to do that. We’re all kind of taking our own breaks from the last long tour also.

Do you think your musical taste varies from the other ladies in the Coathangers?
?
Yeah, we all have different tastes. Stephanie is more pop and Julia has taught me a lot of bands that I’ve never heard of before, but we definitely have a lot of things in common.

How would you describe yourself in three words?

Shy, reliable, and creative.

How do you think others describe you?

Thoughtful, passionate, and funny.

What are your music icons, past or present, who inspire you as far as your music taste, fashion choices, overall attitude and/or life mantra?

Most of these bands will go for all of those things, but the White Stripes, Delta Five, Kleenex, and Jay Reatard.

Do you have a certain quote that you try to live by?

“It’s the little things.” Just trying to appreciate everything, but it’s usually the little things that are the most important anyway.

And you’re also super little too!

Haha, yeah I am.

What band would empty your bank account to see live (living or dead)?

Elvis, but the leather Elvis, like 1967 because he’s super hot in all the leather.

Who/what band would you want to play a show with?

Delta Five, they’re one of my favorite bands and inspirations - musically. Everything all around, I love them.

If you were trapped in a bunker with only one record to listen to on repeat, which one would you choose?

Fats Domino’s Here Stands is my favorite record. I can’t really ever get sick of it. I find myself flipping it over and listening to both sides on repeat.

Which one would be the most tortuous?

I dunno, I couldn’t pick one, even if I didn’t like something then I just wouldn’t listen to it.

What if you were held captive and being involuntary forced?

If I didn’t have a choice, it’d probably be Ke$ha or something. I don’t really know her stuff and I’ve only heard her songs on the radio, but I just know I don’t like it.

Do you have a guilty pleasure? For instance, someone you listen to, but wouldn’t want most people to know about.

Well, a lot of people know this but... Sublime. It’s kind of embarrassing, but I don’t mind if people know. A lot of people hate Sublime. Some people find out and are like, “Oh my god I can’t believe it,” but it just reminds me of high school.
