Rodrigo y Gabriela's Spanish caravan comes to Chastain

Posted By on Thu, Aug 7, 2014 at 10:06 AM

Just because guitar music is acoustic doesn’t mean it can’t have the same visceral impact as the heavy metal that “Rod and Gab” used to play back in their scuffling days. That point is relentlessly driven home on 9 Dead Alive, the duo’s first album of new music in five years and a return to their Mexican/Spanish roots. The notes fly fast and furious, especially when the twosome trade licks, slap their wooden instruments for beats and hold an (outdoor) audience transfixed with two unplugged guitars, searing playing, inspired original compositions and no vocals to distract from 20 blurred fingers of fireworks. Sat., Aug. 9

$40-$60. 8 p.m. Chastain Park Amphitheatre, 4469 Stella Dr. 404-233-2227.
