Crossover pioneers Corrosion of Conformity return

Corrosion of Conformity, an influential crossover act for over 30 years, brings its still relevant hardcore, thrash, and sludge concoction back to town, opening tomorrow night at the Masquerade for GWAR.

Like West Coast counterparts D.R.I., Raleigh, N.C.’s Corrosion of Conformity (COC) morphed in the 1980s from an American hardcore staple to a pioneering crossover metal act with mainstream appeal. The band’s original three-piece lineup of bassist and vocalist Mike Dean, guitarist Woody Weatherman, and drummer Reed Mullin remains relevant in 2014 by building on its 32 year legacy. Newer material mixes the band’s hardcore roots with the modern, sludgy Southern metal sound they inspired. So for those anxious to see the grotesque pageantry of GWAR, getting to the Masquerade in time for COC’s skull-crushing assault will be well worth it.
