Under the Hare and the Hounds banner, Luke Smith and Cole Ayers create wistful and forlorn indie rock along with a roving cast of Atlanta mainstays. Having ventured into the Cottage, Damon Moon and Luciano Giarrano’s East Atlanta recording studio-cum-sanctuary, with Moon (guitar), Chandler Galloway (keyboard), and Jenna Shea (violin), the project now readies its proper debut. Currently slated for release March 25, and in limited CD and colored-vinyl editions, A Moth, A Flame boasts nine tracks that will surely highlight the project’s sullen, ornate beauty. “Sparrows” is the first taste leaked off the LP, and ventures the well-worn path trodden by other purveyors of spacious, intricate indie rock, namely Grizzly Bear, Band of Horses, and My Morning Jacket. Smith delivers his melodies with a calm urgency while his backing band shuffles the loose but focused accompaniment.
