Hailing from the greater Asheville, North Carolina area, bluegrass outfit Steep Canyon Rangers has won multiple awards and earned the gushing adoration of sometimes-frontman Steve Martin. When the group takes the stage with its deft instrumentals and sensible harmonies, it’s no secret why. The band honed its sound for a decade before collaborating in the studio with Martin for 2011’s Rare Bird Alert, which won the Rangers its first Grammy award for Best Bluegrass Album. Touring ceaselessly, the six-piece includes banjo, mandolin, fiddle, guitar, bass, and Cajon drums, utilizing these traditional sounds in ways that transcend generations. The group’s latest release, last year’s Tell The Ones I Love, captured the spirit of the live show with the help of producer Larry Campbell, and with an album produced by Jerry Douglas slated for a Fall release on Rounder Records, the show on Fri., April 10 is sure to showcase the group at the top of its game.
