5 Play: Curtis Williams is ‘Zip Skylark’; Goldyard wishes you ‘Buenos Dias’

Plus new tunes from OG Maco and Migos, Far Out Family, and Pollari with Dexter Dukarus

Curtis Williams — “Almost Made It Freestyle”

Two-9’s resident ringleader dropped his latest project Zip Skylark earlier this week. The 8-track EP is a prelude to Williams’ forthcoming All This Mayhem album, and includes unfinished songs, and freestyles that didn’t make the cut for Danco James. The “Almost Made It Freestyle” rides a smooth sample, and leaves listeners wishing Mr. Williams decided to give songs like this one and others on Skylark more than the “unfinished” tag.

OG Maco feat. Quavo — “Good Gracious”

Quality Control labelmates OG Maco and Quevo (1/3 of Migos) linked up for this ode their paths less traveled. Over a fusion of bass and simple piano loop, the two MCs wax poetic about still being drawn to the their lives of old though newfound success has them thinking better. Look for OG Maco and the rest of the whole Migos gang on their upcoming national tour.

Pollari — “Rich”

Awful Records’ producer Dexter Dukarus links up with Pollari for the latter’s EP, Lucy, which is will be out next Thurs., April 23. This choppy, auto-tuned jam bangs and knocks its way to through the quick two-minute ride.

ICMYI, Goldyard dropped the sequel to their exceptional debut, Fuck Culture. Well, Fuck Culture 2, though darker in overall tone, is a bit more polished than its predecessor. “Buenos Dias,” featuring Texas hip-hop trio the Outfit, TX, has A.T. and In-Doe trading verses with their guest stars over haunting bells and an well-placed Uncle Luke sample. Peep Fuck Culture 2, here.

Glenn Sadler (of Far out Family) — “My Daddy’s Name”
embed-6 Far Out Family’s Glenn Sadler just released his track, “My Daddy’s Name,” from his new project coming out called Lucy’s. (Not be confused with Pollari’s EP, Lucy.) Like Curtis Williams’ Zip Skylark, Lucy’s will be a compilation of songs that never found a home, as well as material that’s still more or less in the “sketch” phase. “My Daddy’s Name” is some Aleon Craft-eqsue leanings, and finds the MC addressing life’s pressures head-on.
