It has been more than 13 months since Decatur-based cyclist/record collector/show promoter Greg Germani suffered a significant traumatic brain injury in a horrific road rage incident, and his recovery, while slow, has been steady. At 8 p.m. tonight (Thurs. July 30), Germani clears another hurdle as he once again joins WRFG-FM 89.3 DJ David Chamberlain for a two-hour show, featuring Germani’s beloved honky tonk music and narration songs.

?
Chamberlain, who has hosted “Sagebrush Boogie” on Thursdays at the small but influential community supported radio station for 32 years, features a mix of Western swing, classic country, and steel guitar music. Germani has appeared on the show many times, but this one is special.

?
“I met Greg after he called me at home and had indicated his newfound interest in country music,” Chamberlain says. “We talked for quite a while and I eventually invited him down to the studio to watch, and eventually he brought some albums with him to share with the listeners.”

?
Germani’s dedication to find and share great music has been a driving force in his life, and over the past year many of his talented friends have returned that favor by performing for him in his living room. This has been a great source of enjoyment and reconnection for Germani, who listens actively and deeply appreciates every note he hears. His return to the radio is a great personal accomplishment, fueled by the support of many, but mostly by Germani’s incredible determination. According to Chamberlain, “He has always been an avid collector, like many of us, and the love of music has remained a central part of our friendship and a major component of his recovery. I guess that when Ray Price sang “The Healing Hands Of Time” he really knew what was going on!”
