Athens power trio Motherfucker has become an East Atlanta Village mainstay since last summer, making the Earl an ideal spot for its album release show. The group has taken full advantage of local shows with the likes of Obits and Mastodon, wowing such veteran acts’ audiences with its self-described “punch-in-the-air rock.” Like Motherfucker’s live show, debut album Confetti (Sick Room Records) straddles the thin line between tight, energetic punk and non-pretentious noise rock. Standout numbers such as live staple “Wild Cherry Nightmare” and instrumental face-melter “ZANG!” pair a controlled explosion of guitar riffs with what has to be the most badass rock drumming you’ll find in Georgia, courtesy of Erika Rickson.
