Culottes is an ongoing series of compilations featuring underground artists from Atlanta and Athens, with proceeds from online sales benefiting Murmur and the Atlanta Zine Fest. Wussy Mag arts editor Sunni Johnson and contributor Dorian McNall are spearheading the project. So far, they’ve pieced together four genre-themed volumes, three of which are posted on Bandcamp.

Volume III: Jeux is an indie rock themed compilation that captures the creativity and youthful exuberance of a thriving scene. Like other volumes in the series, it’s a cross-section of established locals (Warehouse, Twin Studies, Hellier Ulysses, and Man Up, Yancey), outside the box thinkers (Dayvid McClung and Suno Deko), and defunct acts that fortunately left behind some recordings (Chandu’s). The compilation also provides snapshots of artists in transition. The surprisingly noisy and dissonant “Shade of Nothing” is a remnant of Pallas’ past life as Din, while Del Venicci’s inclusion celebrates a band that recently called it quits. There’s also a preview of a couple of veteran performers’ new projects: DEHD featuring Emily Kempf (Back Pockets, Iron Jayne) and Johnson’s own Lisa Frank’s Diary.
