Starbenders get theatrical on ‘Time Stops’ video

The local glam-punk outfit’s latest video suits its new album’s glossy sound.

Glam-punk goes pop on Starbenders’ recent album, Heavy Petting (Institution Records). Standout number “Time Stops” is an amped up acoustic ballad that accentuates lead singer Kimi Shelter’s soulful delivery. On this slowed down, introspective song, Shelter’s vocals are surprisingly reminiscent of Dorthia Cottrell of Windhand’s acoustic material. Last week, Galore unveiled a video for “Time Stops” that, like the song itself, is glossy and theatric. The band pulls off a well-produced pop-rock sound that’s both daring and risky in 2016 — it’s less hip than going the DIY route, and there’s fewer pieces of the mainstream pie than ever for more traditional rock ‘n’ rollers.
