Look folks, I’m not going to insult your intelligence by telling you that DJ Kemit’s award-winning nightlife event Spread Love is popping off tomorrow night. Even the most out-of-the-loop soul, house and Afrobeat heads know that the monthly soiree is once again going down at 595 North — and that this edition, Kemit & Co. are teaming up with artist Fahamu Pecou’s bizarre live talk show The 15 Project — so, there’s really no need to remind anyone, right? Cool.
Now that we’re all clear, let’s get you in a proper Spread Love mood by serving up this mix by Kemit himself; it was recorded live at one of his recent Thursday appearances at the Edgewood Ave. lounge the Sound Table. Check it out:
Spread Love takes place Dec. 17 from 8 p.m.-2 a.m. $10-$15. Free before 10 p.m. 8 p.m.-2 a.m. 595 North Event Venue, 595 North Avenue, NW, ATL 30318 near corner of North Ave & Northside Drive. For more information, visit www.experiencespreadlove.com.

For those waiting on Yelawolf's Shady Records debut, the next month and a half before Radioactive drops on Oct. 25 may seem unbearable. Luckily, Catfish Billy is about keeping his fans fed. Not only did Yela link up with Lil' Jon for his single "Hard White," (which you can cop from iTunes), he's also releasing a video for the song soon. In order to whet fans' appetites, a preview was posted on YouTube last week. And while the 30-second long slow motion clip may be NSFW, it's definitely Friday-approved.
Tripwire premiered the video for Carnivores' "Georgia Power Company" this week. The video, filmed by Brian Danin of BZD Films, and edited/color-saturated by Adam Bruneau, is a work of vamped-out hipster psychedelia that offers just a glimpse at what the group has in-store come Oct. 12 when they release their second round of noisy radness, If I'm Ancient via Double Phantom Records.

When Deerhunter's first album was released, it was simply called Deerhunter. That's what it says on the spine, and that's what it was to be titled. But in the weeks surrounding its release, some unruly heckler at one of their shows at the Drunken Unicorn shouted, "Turn it up, faggot!" For some reason, those four words stuck and that's what people have called this album ever since. After weeks of polling for answers on Facebook, this received an overwhelming number of votes, for obvious reasons. It's a stark, surrealistic image that shows off one of Jared Swilley from the Black Lips hidden talents.

Are we looking at a man or a woman here? We're supposed to think it's a woman, but that tuft creeping up and over old glory is pretty wiry, and we've all seen Silence of the Lambs, right? But then again ...

Remember Bill Gentry? Back in 07 when former CL news editor Scott Freeman wrote about his stepbrother Bill, he described him as "the biggest country-music star you've never heard of."
Things done changed.
Damn dirty repeats! Everyone but Leno took the night off, sooooo, ladies and gentlemen, Orianthi?! Sure, you know, Orianthi! YOU KNOW, Michael Jackson's official guitarist (thanks, bullies!) for that thing he was going to do before he died! Oh THAT Orianthi! Yeesh, bummer of an introduction. Anyway, here she is singin' & shreddin' her generic, Kelly Clarkson-redundant rock song. Also, is that a "Sweet Child of Mine" reference at the beginning of the solo? Sweet.

Directed by Mrzyk and Moriceau, the new video for Sébastien Tellier's "Look" makes it kinda hard not to. (NSFW? Depends on where you work.)

The Decatur-bred MC's major label debut, The Adventures of Bobby Ray, is scheduled to drop April 27.
It's official. Danger Mouse and Cee-lo are a couple of geniuses. Or retards.
Check out the new Gnarls Barkley video for "Who's Gonna Save My Soul," the two co-directed with Chris Milk (Kanye West's "Touch the Sky," "Jesus Walks"). It's pretty heartless.
After releasing two previous videos from The Odd Couple to little fanfare, "Who's Gonna Save My Soul" has video-of-the-year written all over it. But maybe I'm just being a fan.
Is it just me, or is this the best video you've seen in several years?
