Aboveground Animation, a collection of animated shorts curated by New York-based artist Casey Jane Ellison, screened at Couch Couch last night. The compilation, initially put together in 2008, brought ultra-violent claymation, dystopian nuclear wastelands, a pink sasquatch, acid-damaged strawberries, and fornicating line drawings together into a program that felt like a contemporary update of the unpredictable and often hilarious tone that once dominated early MTV.

Martha Colburn's Myth Labs was one of the hightlights, mixing the mythical histories of North America with a methamphetamine epidemic that involves Jesus delivering bags of drugs to Native Americans and pilgrims.

Couch Couch Theater, a relatively new venue for experimental arts in Atlanta, sits above a Jamaican restaurant at 380 Edgewood avenue. April Leigh, who runs and lives in the venue, hopes to make the space a sort of artist hostel where out-of-towners can perform and have a place to stay all in the same location.

Cameron Stuart is also a creative conspirator of CouchCouch. We would be nothing without him!
