True Colors Theatre hires Jasmine Guy as full-time staffer
Jasmine Guy, formerly of “A Different World,” takes a different gig as True Colors Theatre’s new Executive Director.

“We’re putting Jasmine Guy to work!” True Colors Theatre artistic director Kenny Leon exclaimed on the opening night of Blues for an Alabama Sky in 2009. The Tony-nominated director proves as good as his word, as True Colors has hired Guy as its new Executive Director.
According to the theater’s press release: “Guy will fill both an artistic and an administrative role with True Colors, working to further True Colors mission on both the local and national fronts. During True Colors 2010-2011 season, Guy will be featured in the Regional Premiere of Nathan Louis Jackson’s comic drama, Broke-ology directed by Kenny Leon; she will direct George C. Wolfe’s The Colored Museum; and will star in Sam Shepard’s haunting story of obsession Fool for Love.” Perhaps this means that the “Different World” star will help mind the store while Leon cultivates his career on the national stage.
True Colors’ 2010-2011 season begins with Gut Bucket Blues: The Legendary Bessie Smith, a world premiere musical written and directed by the Alliance Theatre’s former artistic associate David Bell about the “Empress of the Blues,” running Sep. 28-Nov. 7 at the Balzer Theatre. Following the company’s perennial Black Nativity (Nov. 23-Dec. 30), Broke-ology plays Jan. 25-Feb. 20, both at the Southwest Arts Center. The Colored Museum runs March 22-April 17 at Decatur’s Porter Sanford Performing Arts Center, and Fool for Love, directed by Todd Kriedler, brings True Colors back to the Balzer Theatre from May 10-June 19.
