What is your title, and where do you live?
Eric: I'm the Director of the North Carolina Division of The North American Fortean Society, Founder of ICE (International Cryptozoology Establishment), Co-Founder of SEPIA (Southeast Paranormal Investigators Association), Host of SEPIA RVP Radio on Para-X, Owner of Phantasm Productions, and currently working on something with MonsterVision. I live in Hubert, N.C., just outside of Jacksonville and Swansboro.
Jess: I'm the Founder of SEPIA, Co-Founder of ICE, and Host of SEPIA RVP Radio on Para-X Radio, I live in Hubert, N.C. as well.
What do you do in your job?
Eric: With all the positions I'm in I handle website design, updates, etc. With ICE I focus on setting up expeditions for the team as well as working on spreading the word out there to people about cryptozoology. Most people don't know what you are talking about until you mention Bigfoot or the Loch Ness monster, but there is so much more to it. As for the production side of things, I produce about 10 shows for Para-X Radio at the moment, as well as host one on Monday nights from 10-Midnight p.m EST, and put together promos as well.
Jess: I manage and focus on setting up cases for SEPIA and ICE. There really isn't too much of a difference between the Crypto world and paranormal world, except one spends most of their time indoors and the other is outdoors. LOL.
How did you get interested in this vocation?
Eric I have always been interested in mythical beasts and cryptids since I was 6 years old. As for the paranormal side of things I was dragged into it by Jess. Well, not dragged…
Jess: I've been fascinated by these things as long as I can remember and I'm glad to see other groups starting to form and do things, just as long as they keep the drama out of it, and realize we're all here for a common goal and NOT for competition.
Have you been to Dragon*Con before, and what will you be doing this year as an official guest?
Eric: This will be my lucky #7 Dragon*Con over the years, but my first year attending as a guest and not working as security or just going for the fun of it. As an official guest I'll be broadcasting live with Para-X Radio, and Para X Vision which was named Dragon*Con's official broadcasting station for the Con this year, and with ICE I'll be giving three panels on cryptozoology, including one on Sunday night. So I'm really looking forward to this year's event and catching up with all my friends in the field.
Jess: This will be my third year at D-con but first as a guest speaker, As well with Eric I will be broadcasting live from Para-X Radio and Para-X Vision with Eric, John Zaffis, Dave Jones, Mama Lisa, and many more. We’ll be speaking on cryptozoology for three days with some of the Team members. Anyone who listens to our show knows they’ll be in for a great time of fun and surprises.
Do you have a message about your vocation that you’d like spectators to come away with? Can you sum it up in a sentence?
Eric: Things that are hidden are meant to be discovered!
Jess: I'd have to say "Never stop looking for answers or the truth — it's out there and it's only a matter of time."
Is there an aspect of genre fandom or Dragon*Con events that appeals to you from outside your professional field?
Eric: People who know me know that I'm a Total Geek inside. This is something I love to attend, and to be asked to be a guest this year is only an honor for me.
Jess: I have to say the first Dragon*Con I attended with Eric, I laughed so hard. Over the years it has become a thing I look forward to each year, whether I'm speaking, working as a volunteer, or just going to go.
