D’AIR Aerial Dance Ensemble will perform its new work Untamed this weekend at its studio space in Grant Park. The seven member, three-year-old Atlanta company combines aerial dance, floor work and theatrics into their live performances. Or as executive director Nicole Mermans puts it more simply: “We take our dance in the air.”.

Along with Andrea Fors, Mermans founded the Atlanta company after the two were partnered in an aerial class at UGA in Athens. They brought their love of the form to Atlanta, and now their non-profit group has its own space in Grant Park where they rehearse, perform and run a number of outreach programs and community classes. Untamed is the third show by the company, which presents one evening-length work a year, in addition to smaller on-going private bookings. The group utilizes trapezes, fabric, rope, chains, hoops, ladders, and other apparatus in Untamed.
